France
The French have spoken. Emmanuel Macron has been elected new president in a hotly contested election.
The centrist leader of the En marche! movement trounced his far-right opponent Marine Le Pen, by 65 percent against Le Pen’s 35 percent.
Le pen has already conceded defeat and in her speech she said, “France is now divided between patriots and globalists with the National front the main opposition.”
Macron a former banker with no political experience becomes the youngest president in the country’s history at only 39 years.
An estimated 47 million voters cast their ballot in the second round of elections on Sunday.
